Webpage not displaying in IE11. Displays correctly in other browsers.

Here is a brief summary: I'm working on a personal website (graphic design portfolio) which is also my website site for an SEO class (currently working towards an associates in web programming). This is the first real website I've created outside of my classes, and needless to say,  I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! I started with a template and have tweaked it to fit my needs. Everything is working/displaying as it should on other browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) EXCEPT on Internet Explorer. I've tested locally the last few weeks and everything looked fine, but I just noticed recently that when I look at the live version on IE 11 it doesn't look anything like it should.

Obviously I need the site to display properly on IE since so many people use it. So I've been reading up a bit on the newer versions of IE, and it appears that 10 and 11 don't recognize conditional statements anymore. Most things I've read, recommend various hacks, browser sniffing, or feature detection. It looks like maybe feature detection is the way I want to go but I can't find a reliable source about this matter or how I should go about implementing it. Then again, the more I think about it, I feel like I should just be able to fix it with some CSS but I'm not sure if that is possible without using the conditional statements. Or maybe my template has some faulty styling?? I've ran it through modern.IE with no problems. Most of my pages are valid with the W3C (there are a few minor errors on two pages but they come from add-ons such as a contact form).

Maybe I'm forgetting something simple and yet significant from all my classes and lessons. At this point in the semester and with the stress of making this site on top of everything else, I'll admit my brain is a bit mushy feeling, and I guess I'm just at a loss of how to fix this right now. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!

The more detailed issue is that everything lines up on the left side in IE when it should be displayed in columns.
