Google toolbar in Internet Explorer can destroy web page content

I am currently writing an extended 404 error page.

Instead of just showing a static error or redirecting, I am building up a more extended page.

I am testing this page with all kind of browsers.

While it works well with all the other browsers, the content can be totally damaged in Internet Explorer.

Using the inbuilt Internet Explorer debugger, I detected all kind of errors. Searching for the error messages on the internet shows lots of discussions about the problems only being related to Internet Explorer. No real solutions are available.

While checking which part of my code triggers these problems, I removed different parts of my codes for testing reasons. I could not find anything specific. Strangely I sometimes got the “Oops! This link appears to be broken" error page.

While searching for this message on the Internet, I found out, that it is created by the Google toolbar.

Finally I found the reason for all the troubles:
The setting "Provide suggestions on navigation errors" is enabled by default in the Google toolbar. In this case the toolbar intercepts the page loading. It looks like it is using a tight timing for it's decision to intercept. Unfortunately this leads to the wrong blaming of "broken link" or to damaged code (which no error handler can detect).

After disabling the setting "Provide suggestions on navigation errors", everything works perfectly.

Unfortunately I cannot solve the issue for my site visitors.

Kindest regards,

BTW: I posted this issue on the Google forum as well. When trying to post the link to the topic I get

"Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account.'
