My client has tasked me with replacing the ActiveX components on their internal site with something cross browser.
The ActiveX components communicates with the PC's printers and automates MS Office tasks.
Their rationale for replacing ActiveX is:
- It is old/obsolete technology
- It is inherently insecure
- Microsoft will stop supporting ActiveX in future IE versions in the foreseeable future?
My questions are:
1. When does Microsoft plan to retire support of ActiveX in the future?
2. Is it inherently insecure, or is that a myth?
3. Outside of ActiveX, BHOs, and Toolbars, what will be the Native capabilities of Internet Explorer in the foreseeable future?
