I am looking for a generic, preferably MS supported method of changing the internet settings for using a proxy. I am trying to set up a local test envirnoment. So I would like to turn off the auto detect setting and run my test and then turn it on and run the test again. All of this would be local to the machine but would happen on various windows platform. What I am testing is the WinHTTP api to query the setting in conjunction with libCurl.
I have seen various ways, using an IE management tool to create an ini file and then read it back, scripts that directly change the registry settings. Is there a simple MS supported or recommended script or SysInternals tool or article describing how to toggle the Auto Detect option from a command, not interactively.
