I understand that an In Private Internet Explorer session does not save history or cookies created by visits to web sites after the In Private session ends.
However, does anyone know the detailed process involved?
Specifically, is a history created in the browser, and are cookies actually created while the In Private session is ongoing. If so, are the cookies and history stored on the C drive somewhere like normal browser history and cookies. Then, if the In Private session is closed, are these files "deleted" in the normal way deletions occur on Windows computers by having the old files moved to the Recyle Bin or remain logged in temporary Internet Files or some other place on the hard drive where hackers and others can recover them.
My concern here is the security of using In Private windows as a de facto way to create a sign on and sign off scenario for minimal users of FTP sites
. If you direct access an FTP site in a normal Chrome or Internet Explorer window, the FTP site creates a cookie with your user name and password in it that it places in the browser. The next time the browser signs onto the FTP site, the cookie automatically signs the browser on with the user name and password. Only having the user sign off from the OS by signing off of windows will prevent this.
However, if the user is required to use an In Private Window to access the FTP site, and then closes that window when finished, the cookie is supposed to be eliminated, and the next time the user signs on to the FTP site, the user will need to sign on with user name and password.
Is the cookie created in the private session simply pushed over to the recycle bin, temporary internet files, or some other location on the computer until the user deletes such files.
Would someone be able to find the cookie there and extricate the passwords and user names to gain access to the FTP site?
am asking for a project where users will be using versions of Windows from 7 on and the respective versions of the Internet Explorer, and some may be using Chrome. Some users may be using Macs, but I am not sure if there is any kind of direct browser access to FTP sites from Macs.
Help.
