Hello -
I am offering a $1000 reward to anyone who can provide a solution to this problem. We have been stumped for 3 weeks.
We host a pair of websites over SSL. They use Cold Fusion and Apache running on a Linux box. Around 3 months ago we started to receive calls from internal employees that the websites were hanging in IE 11. The user would click a link to the website, IE would open a new tab, and the new table would sit there, locked up and doing nothing.
The issue occurs on around 1/3 of our PCs. We then tested it from outside PCs of a few random people, and sure enough, we could reproduce it on some machines with IE 11.
We then created a single page of .JPG images and a single page of .GIF images and hosted them on an internal IIS server again using https. We can reproduce the hang with the .JPG page but not the .GIF page. We have no idea if this helped us better understand this or not. We have reproduced other hangs with IIS pages but all had JPG files on them.
The problem cannot be reproduced with Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
We have done resets of IE 11, cache clearing, etc. But we are challenged since the issue occurs to our customers, so IE settings cannot be the answer. We are not having issues using IE 11 with other external websites.
So far we have looked at our firewall (Palo Alto), switches (Dell), and a few other things finding no issues that we can see. We did take the same page that caused IE 11 to hang and moved it to an external server, hosted over SSL. It does not fail.
We have contacted Microsoft and they have seen the problem, but cannot figure out the cause.
It is serious since we know customers are seeing this.
I'll answer any questions I can and appreciate any input. If someone nails it, I will pay the bounty for the solution.
Thanks
