IIS breaks when a space is presented in a URL as a virtual directory (e.g. http://some.web.site/appName/%20/)

Hi,

Here's the example again: 

http://some.web.site/appName/%20/

I know a crazy thing to do! However this particular error causes me pain with penetration testers who complain that a 500 response is sent (application error). The problem is that it's not my application that sends the 500 it's IIS. My web app never sees the request.

Is there reference information to this being a known issue with IIS? I see this on all flavours of IIS from 7.0 onwards.

OR

Is there some config I have missed that I could bring to bear on the problem?
