Internet Explorer Audio Tag Supported Files

Hello everyone,

I was developing an application recently using the audio tag in html.  In doing so, I realized that IE11 only supports .mp3 audio files for playback.  Chrome supports .mp3, .wav, and .ogg.  Firefox supports all of those formats (depending on the version).  Safari supports .mp3 and .wav.

Why hasn't Internet Explorer tried to match the other browsers in terms of compatibility?  Personally, I use Waterfox and Chrome for development due to the great dev tools that those browsers give me.  IE11, while much better than the earlier versions of IE, is still behind the times in some ways.  Is there a good/specific reason why .wav and .ogg compatibility has not been implemented?  I understand that .ogg isn't a common format, but .wav is definitely a format that should be supported in my opinion.  Wave files were even a Microsoft audio format standard at one point, and I think that proves my point even further.

Does anyone know what is being done to fix this or add compatibility for .wav and .ogg to IE?
